Learning Objectives

Describe the purpose, structure, and clinical rationale of the NEWS2 scoring system.
Identify and accurately measure the six physiological parameters used in NEWS2.
Differentiate between SpO₂ Scale 1 and Scale 2, and apply them appropriately.
Interpret total NEWS2 scores and apply escalation protocols based on thresholds.
Document observations correctly, including oxygen use, date, time, and initials, on paper or digital charts.
Apply NEWS2 in clinical practice, including in hospital, ambulance, and community settings, and use SBAR for effective escalation.
