Learning Objectives

Define sepsis and describe its causes and physiological impact, including differences in adults and children.
Recognise early signs and symptoms of sepsis and identify individuals at greater risk.
Apply appropriate screening tools and protocols, including NEWS2, PEWS, and the Sepsis Six bundle.
Respond promptly and effectively to suspected sepsis, initiating first-line treatment and timely escalation.
Document and communicate concerns clearly using structured handover techniques such as SBAR.
Promote infection prevention strategies and support post-sepsis recovery through patient education, vaccination, and follow-up care.
